Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance Examinations
ISTD is the world’s leading dance examination board, known for providing one of the highest levels of training in examination syllabi.
At WestSide, we offer students the chance to take part in the Modern Theatre Dance syllabus. We prepare Students in graded examination classes in Modern Theatre Dance from the age of 7 years up to those who wish to pursue a career in dance or further their training to prepare for The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (ISTD) Teaching Qualifications.
The Modern Theatre Dance is a rhythmic dance style, which originated in America before travelling to the rest of the world. It is often seen on the stages of musical productions and is known for its theatrical qualities. The style uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns which all need strength and flexibility. This is a highly energetic dance style.
Modern Theatre Dance is an invaluable combination of Modern dance, Jazz, Contemporary and Ballet. Through a carefully planned and well-established syllabus the students learn exercises, dances and amalgamations that help them to be disciplined and versatile dancers, building core strength and flexibility. Modern, like Ballet, is an incredibly important dance discipline, it is a fundable foundation of Jazz Dance and will further enhance your child’s dance training.
